A tilting disc check value valve or swing check valve is a check valve in which the disc changeable part to block the flow on trunnion or swing oh hinge either of the seat to allow forward flow or onto the seat to block the reverse flow. The seat opening cross section may be perpendicular at an angle or to the centerline between two ports. These check valves can come in various shapes and sizes but large check valves are often called swing check valves. The flapper valve in flush toilet mechanism is an example of this category of valve. Manual lift of flapper overcome tank pressure by holding it closed. It remains open until the flapper falls due to the gravity and the tank drains. Another variety of this mechanism is the clapper valve, used in application of fire life systems and fire fighting. In the inflow direction, a hinge gate remains open. When there is no forward pressure, the clapper valve has a spring that keeps the gate shut. Another example is the backwater valve that protects flooding that is caused by return of sewage waters. In sanitary systems that are connected to sewerage, such risks can occur in most cases. The reasons behind this are flood, intense rainfall.
In case of swing, check valves there are double-flanged swing check type of cast iron with non-return valves having Gasket Joints, Bolted Bonnet Flanges and Renewable Seats. Flanges are drilled and faced as per IS Specifications. There is counter weight arrangement or oil cushioned cylinder and it can achieve non-slamming effect, if asked.
